Students of MYP 1 have been learning about maps. They demonstrated their understanding by using their map skills in a treasure hunt. Ms. Kelsey Richardson created a map of the school and surrounding areas and placed candy for the students to find. The students were then split into two teams: the Lollipop Guild Gansta’s and the Clan of the Bubble Gum Wildlings. In their teams they had to work together to read the map and find the treasure. At the end, the teams enjoyed their candy and we discuss all of the map skills we used as well as how we worked together as a team.
It was interesting to see the students’zeal in taking up the challenge and finding the hidden treasure. Such engagements helps students to develop critical thinking skills as well as problem solving attitude. We want our students to feel empowered to find solutions on their own so that they are ready to face the challenges of the real life situations.
